Hi! I’m Julia Sforza, and I started Half-Pint Preserves out of a love for where I call home, the Hudson Valley of New York. That’s me in the picture above, picking strawberries at nearby Greig Farms. I got hooked on preserving food while writing my blog, What Julia Ate. There you’ll find many recipes for jams, jellies and other good food. My love for making preserves out of the fruits of this region soon blossomed into a business.
All of my preserves are small-batch and hand made. Many fruits are hand-picked by me, some ingredients are homegrown or wild, and the sugar I use is organic. I connect with farmers and orchardists to make sure the fruit used is sustainably grown. I prefer not to use commercial pectin, and instead rely on either wild, green apples or the natural pectin in a fruit for what I think is the perfect texture. I like to think that what goes into the jar is the essence of where it came from: the field, the sun, the soil.
If you have any questions at all, please contact me at halfpintpreserves AT gmail DOT com. I’d love to hear from you!
